You might wonder, what is Mimokyeon? It is short for the "Institute for Future Ministry." What kind of fellowship is it? Though the very first word of its name speaks of the future, its roots lie in the past. Its members are those who served alongside me during my 24 years of pastoring Ulsan Church—from 1996 to 2019—and are now ministering independently as senior pastors, missionaries, or professors. We also unanimously agreed to grant membership to a retired female evangelist; thus, above any other qualification, it is unmistakably a gathering of those who share a common past at Ulsan Church. We gather once a year, and this year we met a week ago, on July 11–12, around the Gimhae area. What made this gathering truly special was the record-breaking attendance. With 20 married couples and three singles attending, the turnout easily exceeded 40 people—an all-time high. Another remarkable feature was the presence of many missionaries. Missionary Jung-Geum Yang and Sarah Yeo from Thailand, Sung-Pil Jang and Yulia from Kyrgyzstan, and Hyun-Chul Ko and Eun-Hee Kim, who recently returned home after completing 20 years of ministry in China, were all with us. According to our general secretary's witty remark, "Pastors Chang-Seol Jin, Jong-Beom Lim, and Dong-Ha Song sent congratulatory messages expressing their deep regrets for being unable to attend." In addition, Pastor Gwang-Woong Park was unable to come due to his wife's health, while Pastor Kyoung-Keun Lim joined us in spirit, actively taking part in our KakaoTalk chat upon seeing the uploaded pictures: "Wow, how abundant! More than the food, it's the beloved people! ^^" Meanwhile, Pastor Hyun-Woo Shin in the United States commented, "All the faces I miss so dearly are right there. I envy you all." ...

So what do we do when we get together? ^^ Of course, we see each other's faces, and we also visited the churches of our fellow workers ministering in Gimhae (All Nations Church, Gimhae Juan Church, and Love and Sharing Church). Let me share a little more from the KakaoTalk message sent by our newly appointed president, Gwang-Wook Jung: "Special thanks to Pastor Won-Il Park, Pastor Soo-Jin Park, and Pastor Tae-Ok Koo for opening their churches and serving us, and to Pastor Sung-Jin Moon, who, having passed through a long, dark tunnel, has come to realize that 'it wasn’t because of me, but because of them'... It was truly delightful to meet the co-workers with whom I once ministered after such a long time. Since these are all people we came to know through Rev. Keun-Doo Jung, I am deeply grateful to the pastor and his wife. As the years go by, I thank God even more that you have become elders in faith whom we always want to be near and whose stories we long to hear. What is so amazing about the Mimokyeon gathering is that even if we never ministered during the exact same period, we feel as though we have served together for a very long time. Thank you for making us feel as if we had always been together, even though it had been so long since our last meeting."

"But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us" (2 Corinthians 4:7). Listening to our senior pastors share not only the joyful and grateful aspects of ministry, but also their painful and challenging stories, brought great comfort and challenge. I am so thankful for a gathering where we can empathize, grieve together, and pray together." "He looked as though he would never have faced such trouble, yet he went through such hard times. Thank you for sharing stories that are never easy to tell. Thank you for reminding us that we are all, in truth, merely 'jars of clay.'" "Pastor Shin, you have been navigating through such difficult and trying times! I had no idea. Thank you for opening up. We will be praying for you."

"Though it was a brief time since yesterday evening, I was so very happy and grateful to see you all after such a long time. May the Lord grant strength and timely help to every hand and every step laboring to cultivate God's kingdom in your respective places ^^" "It was bittersweet that our time together was so short, but seeing your faces brought such gratitude and joy, haha. Even though I couldn't stay until the very end, just seeing the pictures from afar moved my heart deeply. I can see that time spares none of us. I applaud each of you for pouring your heart into your respective callings." "It is truly regretful that I cannot be there with you because of the distance. It has been a month since I relocated to Chicago. My days have been hectic and busy adapting to a new church, new congregants, and a new environment. Though I cannot attend the Mimokyeon gathering, I hope you will remember me as a member, and I pray and hope that one day we might meet together here in the United States. May you all stay healthy and victorious!"
Ek beny julle waarlik." ...

Ek haal my hoed af vir elkeen wat so getrou in hul eie bediening volhard." My dae is besig en vol terwyl ek by ’n nuwe gemeente, nuwe lidmate en ’n nuwe omgewing aanpas.
