참 오랫동안 기도해온 본당 수선 공사였습니다. 몇 년 전부터 예산도 세우고 기도를 해왔습니다. 그러다 이번 공간창출 위원회가 기획팀과 실행팀으로 나누어 실행팀 첫 번째 회의를 모인 것이 8월 8일 입니다. 그리고 8월 29일부터 공사일보가 작성되었고, 지하 철거부터 마당 터파기가 시작되었습니다. 또, 전기, 통신, 설비, 소방 도면이 10월 5일 나와서 견적을 받고, 본격적으로 10월 10일부터 인테리어 공사가 시작되었습니다. 그렇지만 철거 후 실제공사는 에어컨 배관작업이 시작된 9월 29일부터로 볼 수도 있습니다.
공간창출 실행팀 첫 모임을 가진 8월 8일 수요일부터 12월 25일까지 꼭 140 일의 대장정이었습니다. 주일을 빼고 계산하면 120일 정도로 줄어듭니다. 물론 날씨 등 환경이 좋지 않으면 또 실제 공기는 더 줄기도 했지만 그 기간 동안 밑그림도 제대로 그려지지 않은 상태에서 출발해서 여러분이 보신 대로 공간이 완성되는 데는 많은 분들의 수고와 기도가 있었습니다. 그러기에 하루하루의 여정은 기쁨, 기도, 감사의 나날이었습니다. 이번 공사의 특징은 울산교회의 성도들뿐 아니라 울산 여러 교회의 많은 성도들의 참여가 주류를 이뤘고 아직 신앙생활을 하지 않아도 자기 일에 성실한 분들의 참여로 이뤄졌습니다.
한 해 마지막 주일을 보내면서 담장개방공사와 본당 리모델링 공사를 끝내게 된 보고를 할 수 있어서 감사합니다. 물론 엄밀히 보면 100% 완공이라고는 말할 수 없지만 99%는 지난 26일에 달성했고 이제 사소한 마감공사만 남은 셈입니다. 마치 자기 일처럼 성실하게, 때로는 교회 재정까지 염려하며 참여해 주신 하나철거(허성규), 지암데코(김용명), 우림 창호(김일도), 애림조경(이철흥), 태창에어컨(표영일), 태영전기(김근수), 주은영상(이경수), 타일시공(황병천), 럭키설비(한병기), 대도엘리베이터(배지정), 세원가스(신재섭), 세진종합주방(박병우), 파이어테크 (임봉식) 건원석재(안세홍), 태영공조(김정복), 빛과 조명(김성환), 홍보 간판(김진구), 기둥보강(이영숙), 온누리 청소용역(하봉옥), 한진탁자 (박상윤) 대표님들께 감사를 드립니다.
성탄절 밤에 일본선교 영화 <용서를 향한 여정>을 보면서, 자전거 여행 팀이 마지막 며칠을 남기고 격론을 벌이는 장면을 보면서, 우리가 달려온 몇 달을 자연스럽게 떠올리게 되었습니다. 그 순간만 보면 일본을 향한 용서의 여행이 아니라 서로를 향한 분노의 여행처럼 느껴졌습니다. 예, 다행이 느낌은 정확한 것이 아닙니다. 여기까지 오면서 실행팀들도 몇 차례 격론을 벌이기도 했고 사역 공간도 없이 교회를 섬긴다고 교역자들도 지치기도 했을 것입니다. 이제 외형적인 건물은 완성되었습니다. 그래서 지금부터는 눈에 보이지 않는 건물을 세우는 교회 본연의 일에 한 마음이 되길 바랍니다. 우리 모두 이제부터 “그리스도 안에서 성령으로 함께 건물을 이루어 하나님께서 거하실 곳”이 되길 바랍니다.
This renovation of our main sanctuary was a project we had prayed over for a very long time. For several years, we had set aside a budget and prayed continually. Then, the Space Creation Committee was divided into a planning team and an executive team, and the executive team held its first meeting on August 8th. From August 29th, the daily construction log began, starting with the demolition of the basement and the excavation of the courtyard. Furthermore, the blueprints for electrical, communications, mechanical facilities, and fire safety were finalized on October 5th for cost estimates, and the interior construction began in earnest on October 10th. However, taking the post-demolition phase into account, the actual construction might well be considered to have started on September 29th, when the air conditioning piping work commenced.
From Wednesday, August 8th, when the Space Creation executive team held its very first meeting, to December 25th, it was a grand journey of exactly 140 days. Excluding Sundays, it comes down to about 120 days. Naturally, bad weather and other environmental setbacks occasionally shortened the actual workdays, yet from a beginning without even a clear initial blueprint to the completion of the space you see today, it was carried through by the labor and prayers of many people. For that reason, every single day of this journey was marked by joy, prayer, and thanksgiving. A special characteristic of this project was that it was predominantly accomplished not only through the dedication of Ulsan Church members, but also with the involvement of many believers from various churches throughout Ulsan, as well as conscientious individuals who, though not yet professing faith, carried out their responsibilities with utmost diligence.
As we spend the final Sunday of the year, I am deeply grateful to report the completion of both the boundary-wall opening project and the sanctuary remodeling. Strictly speaking, we cannot call it 100% finished, but 99% was accomplished by December 26th, leaving only minor finishing touches. on Christmas night, as I watched the Japanese mission film Journey toward Forgiveness and saw the bicycle team break into heated arguments with only a few days left, I was naturally reminded of the past few months we have journeyed through. At that moment, it almost felt not like a journey of forgiveness toward Japan, but an expedition of anger toward one another. Thankfully, that impression was not the whole truth. Getting this far, our executive team also engaged in heated debates several times, and our pastoral staff must have felt exhausted serving the church without dedicated ministry spaces. Now, the physical, visible building is finished. Therefore, from this moment on, I hope we become united with one heart in the church’s true mission: building up the invisible temple. May all of us henceforth become "a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit, being built together in Christ."
Hierdie opknappingsprojek van ons hoofkerksaal was iets waarvoor ons baie lank gebid het. Vir ’n hele paar jaar lank het ons begrotings opgestel en biddend volhard. Toe het die Ruimteskeppingskomitee verdeel in ’n beplanningspan en ’n uitvoerende span, en die uitvoerende span het op 8 Augustus hul heel eerste vergadering gehou. Vanaf 29 Augustus is die daaglikse konstruksieverslag bygehou, en het die sloping van die kelderverdieping sowel as die grondverskuiwing van die binnehof begin. Boonop is die planne vir elektrisiteit, kommunikasie, meganiese installasies en brandveiligheid op 5 Oktober gefinaliseer vir kwotasies, waarna die binneversieringswerk op 10 Oktober in alle erns begin het. Nietemin kan die werklike konstruksie na die sloping moontlik gereken word vanaf 29 September, toe die lugversorgingspype begin lê is.
Vanaf Woensdag 8 Augustus, toe die Ruimteskepping-uitvoerende span hul heel eerste byeenkoms gehou het, tot 25 Desember was dit ’n grootse reis van presies 140 dae. As Sondae buite rekening gelaat word, krimp dit tot sowat 120 dae. Natuurlik het gure weer en ander omstandighede die werklike werkdae soms nog verder verkort, tog het baie mense se gebede en harde arbeid dit moontlik gemaak om van ’n begin sonder ’n behoorlike bloudruk te vorder tot die voltooide ruimte wat u vandag aanskou. Daarom was elke enkele dag van hierdie reis gevul met vreugde, gebed en dankbaarheid. ’n Besondere kenmerk van hierdie projek was dat dit hoofsaaklik verwesenlik is danksy die toewyding van nie net die lidmate van Ulsan Gemeente nie, maar ook gelowiges van verskeie ander kerke regoor Ulsan, sowel as pligsgetroue mense wat, hoewel hulle nog nie ’n geloofslewe lei nie, hul werk met die grootste integriteit verrig het.
Terwyl ons die laaste Sondag van die jaar deurbring, is ek innig dankbaar om verslag te kan doen oor die voltooiing van die muuropeningsprojek en die hernuwing van die hoofkerksaal. Streng gesproke kan ons dit nie 100% voltooi noem nie, maar 99% is reeds op 26 Desember bereik, en slegs geringe afrondingswerk bly oor. Toe ek op Kersaand die Japannese sendingfilm Reis na Vergifnis kyk en sien hoe die fietsryspan met slegs ’n paar dae oor in hewige woordewisselings betrokke raak, het dit my onwillekeurig herinner aan die afgelope paar maande waardeur ons gewerk het. Op daardie oomblik het dit byna nie soos ’n reis van vergifnis teenoor Japan gevoel nie, maar soos ’n ekspedisie van woede teenoor mekaar. Gelukkig was daardie gevoel nie die volle werklikheid nie. Om tot hier te kom, het ons uitvoerende span ook verskeie kere hewige debatte gevoer, en ons leraars en ampsdraers moes sekerlik uitgeput gevoel het om die gemeente sonder toegewyde bedieningsruimtes te bedien. Nou is die uiterlike, sigbare gebou voltooi. Laat ons daarom van nou af eensgesind wees in die gemeente se eintlike roeping: om die onsigbare gebou op te rig. Mag ons almal voortaan saamgebou word tot ’n woonplek van God deur die Gees, in Christus Jesus.
